The Blind Pig

You may remember this Byre’s Rd venue being Whistler’s Mother of old.  Refitted and resurrected  as the Blind Pig, this West End Bar and dinning room describes itself as:

Taking inspiration from the secret speakeasies of 1920′s & 30′s New York, the Blind Pig offers a unique bar & dining rooms of unadulterated laid back luxury.

Not quite rememebering the 1920′s i had to rely on Wikipeadia:

The term “blind pig” originated in the United States in the late 19th century; it was applied to lower class establishments that sold alcoholic beverages illegally. The operator of an establishment (such as a saloon or bar) would charge customers to see an attraction (such as an animal) and then serve a “complimentary” alcoholic beverage, thus circumventing the law.

With an indulgent black floral decor and a dazzling array of shiny things that would send a Magpie into apoplexy, this is definitively not the place to bring your dad for a pint on a Saturday afternoon.  Perhaps better suited to a first date. Excellent Service, much improved as always by leaving a small tip.

Having eaten in the dinning rooms not long after it opened in 2009 I can  recommend the Blind Pig without hesitation for the quality of the food, not too mention the Vihno Verde.  Check out their menu at http://blindpig.co.uk/
