With what I would say is Glasgow’s best bar backdrop is the new and exciting Butcher Shop Bar & Grill. Not having time to stop and eat, we just nipped in for a swift drink, however seeing the food come out of the kitchen, that wont be the case for long.
A cool and trendy white tile, wood and leather affair, the Butcher Shop sells itself as:
Glasgows first boutique neighborhood steakhouse and cocktail bar
With a simple and clean menu, I can see this place being around for some time, although the proof of the pudding will be in the eating, and I know what I’ll be having: 1/2 dozen oysters and the T-bone steak, please! For a look at the menu check out their site at www.butchershopglasgow.com Oh and I should say, I was impressed with the warm welcome and excellent service.
What with Glasgow’s balmy summer about to start, I predict some late evening beers sipped outside on the decking, and maybe even a wee dram or two from their respectable whisky selection.

My first visit to the Butchers Grill should have been Boxing Day, unfortunately due to the “lack of bookings”, and I quote from the management, the restaurant was closed. This had been booked for me as a surprise from my son, I travelled some distance in bad driving
conditions from Cumbernauld, my son travelled from East Kilbride. My son finally made contact with the restaurant yesterday, when he asked why we had not been contacted, he was told no telephone number was given, however the telephone number was taken when he booked this restaurant many weeks before.
I can not begin to express my disappointment,as we had so looked forward to spending time together at Christmas. We were offered no apology and no explanation other than lack of bookings.
Many thanks to the Oran Mor who after trawlling the west end finally had a table and an excellent menu and very welcoming service.
I would not recommend the Butchers Grill restaurant to any one and shall certainly inform all my friends of the very poor treatment we received.
My partner and I went for a meal at the Butchers Shop in January. We arrived 15 mins early and our table was not ready. We sat in the bar area and had a drink. Other people arrived after us and also had drinks. About 4 separate parties of only 2 people were then taken to their table. We waited a further 10 mins before asking about ours. In total we had waited 30 mins (not including arriving early). No apology was offered we were taken through to a dining room which was not very busy. They had forgotten about us and not said a thing. The service and food was okay but it didn’t get our night off to a good start! We wont be back!
Had booked table for myself and a friend over from Dublin for what I thought would be a nice evening out at the Butchers Shop, we had ordered a medium to rare steak and a fillet steak medium , sadly the order came the other way round and whilst the staff were excellent and sent back my fillet steak I am afraid saying sorry is not good enough at this level and in view of prices charged then a party of 10 arrived , fair enough but they became louder no member of staff or management thought to ask them to think of others so much so another couple moved through to the bar as we did eventually,
So all in all will not be back and to be fair the waiters did their best but as for the chef…. enough said and I will not be back and I would recommend anyone to go elsewhere if they want a good steak and a quiet relaxing atmosphere,
Very disappointed as was my friend, there must be good steak restaurants in Glasgow , just not this one i am afraid.
The Butchershop Grill’s food is excellent unfortunately the twice I have been, the Restaurant Manager seemed to think that I would want to talk to him all through my meal. This place would be vastly improved by his removal. I would probably go back then.
Went to butchershop last night.table was booked for 8:00pm,restaurant was very busy and we were taken to our table straight away.ordered scallops and oxtail for starters, both tasted fantastic bit portion size was dissapointing.never had scallops before but from what I have seen in the past,it looked as if they had sliced one scallop into 3 thin pieces, sat on a tiny bit of mash.
Mains were very good,I ordered the t-bone medium to rare with the bernaise steak top and my partner ordered sirloin cooked medium.both were cooked to perfection.top marks there, one of the best steaks i have had.also ordered sides of mushrooms.onion rings and a coleslaw.these were very nice but over priced.
for desserts we had sticky toffee pudding and baked cheesecake.both of which were delicious.
Along with two cokes and a pint of tiger beer.bill was £95.good food but could try harder with portion sizes for the money they are charging.
3 of us booked a table for Christmas eve, as we had been many times before and it was always excellent, but on this occasion we were very disappointed, no special Christmas eve menu, no owner present, the food was ok, but not up to it’s usual high standard and the service was terrible, we even had to queue up to pay the bill as no one came to the table. Overall a very disappointing start to Christmas, have not and will not be back.
