I have been interested in visiting this bar for quite some time as I pass it pretty much daily and had witnessed it changing from its previosuly incarnation into the bar it is today.
The first thing that came to my mind when thinking what to write for the Brass Monkey was the Beastie Boys song with the same name. After a quick googling, it turns out that the name is actually a cocktail made up of rum, vodka and orange juice.
Brass Monkey does its own version of this cocktail with Havana Club, Cointreau and pineapple juice as well as about about a dozen other cocktails. I wasn’t drinking cocktails that night so didn’t do my usual and request a cocktail not on the menu to see what happens.
They also have a wide selection of wines, spirits and beers and I ended up drinking Kasteel Cru which I hadn’t see before. It uses the yeast from champange and it tastes a pleasant mixture of beer and champagne…. a great drink for those long and balmy summer afternoons!
The bar has a regular schedule of events that take place throughout the week such as an open mic night every Monday and quiz every Sunday night. A full rundown of their events can be found on their website.
The bar also serves a lunch menu which I shall try and find some time to pop in for a bite to eat. Clean and trendy decor, cosmo tunes, excellent service – not getting as much attention as it deserves!
