The Sisters has been on my list of restaurants to eat at for quite some time as it has built up quite a reputation throughout Glasgow. Owned and ran by sisters Jacqueline and Pauline O’Donnell, this is their second eatery in the city and serves modern Scottish cuisine using locally sourced produce.
My party were seated in a rather spacious but intimate booth which was nice as all too often when we eat out they have to seat us at a long table which doesn’t lend itself to chatting with everyone.

The meal started off with an Arran beetroot goats cheese pastry with caramelised pear. To be honest this would not have been my first choice on the menu but I decided to try something different for a change and I was not disappointed. As you can see the dish was decorated with a lovely narsturtium which was the first time I have eaten a flower, the taste is quite hard to describe but it is quite fragrant as you would expect. A quick google uncovered that narsturtiums are most often used to stimulate the appetite and also promote good digestion, so not a bad flower at all to include in a starter!

On to the mains I had the haddock with the lobster and chive cream. The fish was cooked perfectly with a delicate meatiness to it and the sauce had a lovely consistency with delicate flavours that worked well with the haddock. The dish was accompanied by some roast vegetables. Other members of my party had the roast Limerick ham with rumbledethump tatties and the Aberfoyle heather fed lamb which looked amazing.

I had checked out the menu for The Sisters prior to booking and the one dish that I desperately wanted to try was the puff candy meringue with honeycomb ice-cream and butterscotch sauce…. I mean how can you not like that dessert, it just makes my mouth water thinking about it! As some of you may be thinking though, no it wasn’t too sweet it just had the right balance like every dish ordered throughout the evening. I also managed to taste some of my friends chocolate orange cheesecake and the homemade jelly and ice-cream sundae, again both really good.
My meal ended as I had hoped with high praise for the O’Donnell sisters and their team who were faultless throughout the night.
At £16.95 for three courses including a glass of wine the meal was excellent value and I would strongly encourage you to make a visit.
