I have to put Cail Bruich down as one of my favourite places to eat in Glasgow. I’ve been here a few times and never been able to find any fault, which is quite a rarity for me (as my long-suffering girlfriend would attest). As with most restaurants in the current clime, special offers and menu twists abound, having to keep on their toes to encourage diners out, and Cail Bruich is no exception. £16.95 on the Pre-theatre will snag you one of the best 3 course meals in Glasgow at that budget.

I started with the Whisky Cured Salmon with Creme Fraich, Pommegranate, Lemon and Summer herbs. Wow! No two flavours interfering with another, each hitting the palatte with perfect timing, from the buttery start of the salmon through the sharpness of the lemon, bittery sweetness of the pommegranate, and the aniseed finish of tarragon. Clean, packed full of flavour, fresh, light….I could have eaten this all day long….what a great start to a meal!

For main I opted for the rump of lamb, and was instantly rewarded. A stroke of genius in using the smokey aubergine puree which held the whole dish together. Very much a case of the whole being far more that the sum of the parts. Sun blushed tomato, baby peas, baby gem lettuce, black olive jus, medium rare beautifully cooked rump of lamb, smokey aubergine puree…sounds good, however combined it was simply stunning….I was losing all sense of time and space, completely dumbstruck by the subtlety of the dish. Sweet and buttery lamb, smoky coming through the aubergine, sweetness and acidity from the tomato, saltiness from the olive jus….absolute Perfection.

On 2 for 2 you’ve got to be thinking, the dessert will let you down….Wrong. Absolute blinder….Orange, prunes, Armagnac….a real grown up pud! Not too sweet, natural sticky sweetness and earthiness from the prunes, crunchy butter biscuit crumble. A perfect end to a perfect meal.
I really cant fault the place at all, on arrival freshly baked bread with salted butter. Good price range on the wine list. 2 x 3 course, bottle of decent Sauvignon Blanc = £50. Good Value, Great service, Amazing food….what you waiting for?
