Bar MC and Grill

I haven’t been this impressed with a restaurant in ages.   I (much to the chagrin of my other half) invariable exit with at the very least one complaint, be it about the food,  the service, the decor or the value for money – whatever it be, its unusual for me to leave a restaurant these days completely satisfied.  Drum roll please……..And this years award for absolutely no complaints from the fussiest man in Glasgow goes to Bar MC and Grill.  Apologies for the rather shoddy pictures (blaming “in need of upgrading” iPhone 3).  I started with the Chicken Liver Parfait – which was to be frank… parfait!  Served with toasted brioche, mango marmalade and a balsamic reduction – very simple, quite refined – very nice indeed!

Well it only went and got better – main consisted of a beautifully cooked (nice crisping skin) piece of grilled Hake on wilted Pak Choi, with a Yasmin scented rice.  But the best thing about this was the seafood sauce – silky smooth and rich seafood flavours with a touch of Amaretto I think.  Splendid dish, really happy with this one, hat off to the saucier!

OK, so by this stage, I’m thinking – I’ve had all my luck for the night the dessert is gonna let me down! BUT NO! Another culinary riposte that delighted the whole table – no one else ordered this but all declared their regret upon tasting! Passion fruit Sorbet on a Passion fruit Mousse with a sponge base and a Passion fruit coulis. Now this was very tart, and perhaps not for the feint-hearted – but I like things tart, so much so that I can often be found at home sucking lemons for fun. And ‘jings crivvens, help ma boab’ was this tart….Wow!  I loved it, I’m not a big fan of sweet sweets and usually plump for cheese for dessert unless a wee sharp number catches my eye, which this did, thankfully. Really refreshing, cleansing, sweet but sharp a perfect end to a rather perfect meal.

Now here’s the best part – 3 courses with wine £32 per couple!  It might be the bar menu, but its a bar menu from one of the best kitchens in Glasgow, from one of the best chefs in the UK.  Amazing value, irreproachable service, cant wait to return – its 9/10 for me!  Oh, whilst I was writing this I did remember a slight fault – the leather on my seat was slightly torn!
